Question For Microsoft Word Users

I just came across something which could prove extremely useful to me if it works and which could potentially save me hundreds of dollars. It's a macros that converts polytonic (three-accented) Greek into monotonic (one-accented) Greek. It was designed for the blind for converting text into braille and also for those who need to convert the text to send in e-mails etc.

How would this macro be implimented? That is, does MS Word have a menu option for inserting macros or would it be stored somewhere and called upon once the document is open? I've used macros in my Braille Lite 2000 but never anywhere else. Would something like this only work in Microsoft Word or could it be used in other programs? Could it be made into it's own program? Thanks.

Depends on the implementation. Macro is just a different name for a piece of code really, code has to be compatible with different programs. Most office programs code is interchangable with minor modifications and word Macros are easily written in vba, that can call whatever other programming environment is necessary, if you want to go overboard and make it complicated.
It all depends on the macro itself how useful it is and what applications it runs with.

Would you be able to tell me about this one by looking at it's code? The above link is just that, code and not merely an explanation. I don't have MS Word, so am interested in what alternatives I could use with this particular macro, if any.
